Hope House Programs

Hope House was founded in 1969 by two Roman Catholic nuns who moved into the St. Thomas Housing Development which was within our parish boundaries.  It is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization and depends on donations and grants and welcomes all contributions in their efforts to feed, house, clothe, and educate God’s people.

Working in close collaboration with our parish on our campus and located at 916 St. Andrew Street, Hope House offers the following services to our neighborhood community:

Emergency Assistance:  Food, rent and utility assistance, clothes, bus tokens, shelter vouchers, advice and referrals

Common Grounds Resource and Coffeehouse:  Free coffee and pastries, newspapers, magazines, books, computer and internet access for the homeless

Adult Learning Center:  Literacy, GED, computer training, ACT and SAT preparation

Family Transitional Housing

After-school Youth Program:  Recreation, field trips, homework help, Tulane University volunteers

Prison Ministry:  Visits with people at Orleans and Angola prisons

Education for Justice:  Workshops on poverty and justice, high school, college, church, and civic groups
